From May 2025 you can see the new statue of the executioner that guards the entrance to the tower of the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Bruntál. The statue commemorates the history of the town, when Bruntál had the right of throat and thus its executioner. He was not just an executor of punishments.

Often he was in charge of cleaning the streets or performing medical procedures that others dared not do.
The artificial stone statue, over two metres high, was unveiled in March this year. Its author is Daniel Klose. As he pointed out, he didn't want to make a classic hooded executioner in a top hat. "There is actually no given form of the executioner. Everyone was different, everyone had the hood in a different way. And I didn't want to do anything specific, especially in that face. That's why the hood is the way it is. To make it a little bit of a memento mori. So that people who see it will think about what they might have done wrong," said the sculptor.

The tower of the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is a natural landmark of Bruntál. It has undergone a complete reconstruction, including extensive restoration of the gallery and railings. Visitors have to climb one hundred and thirteen steps to see the city from a height of more than twenty metres. The parish church is the oldest stone building in the town, dating from the mid-13th century. It was founded in the Gothic style and later rebuilt in the Renaissance and Baroque style. The tower is open free of charge every weekend from 10am to 4pm.
