Take a trip to Žulová, you won't regret it! 14.08.2020 - Tomáš Rak vložil article 14.08.2020 11:15 The small town of Žulová in the Rychlebské hory Mountains is another place where, despite the current boom in travel in the Czech Republic, you won't encounter crowds of tourists and you can enjoy the atmosphere and experiences in peace. And believe me, there is plenty to choose from. An unmistakable dominant feature of the town situated on the road between Jeseník and Javorník is undoubtedly the atypical building of St. Joseph's Church. The church was built two hundred years ago on the ruins of a medieval castle. The foundation of its tower was a castle bergfrith, from whose massive stone cylinder grows a bell tower extension with a traditional late Baroque turret. And since the town's name already puts you in the land of stone and quarries, take a peek at the small Kamenice Museum, which is only open now during the holidays, right next to the information centre by the church. From Josefské náměstí you can take a walk to the pilgrimage church on Boží Hora, which has been welcoming you to the region for a long time, or to the waterfalls in the middle of the Rychlebské Hory. A blue hiking trail leading from the town to the church follows the Stations of the Cross. It may be a ʹkrpálʹ, but the beautiful view of the Silesian lowlands is worth it. Just about a kilometre from the church is the rock town below Borový vrch. Smaller and larger abandoned quarries flank this geological site, which has been cleared by mineral prospectors. Not surprisingly, in the past there were hundreds of mining sites in the vicinity of Žulová. Another ideal destination for a relaxing family trip in these parts is undoubtedly the Nýznerovské waterfalls on the Silver Stream. The walk to them, as opposed to the more demanding path to the church on Boží hora, can be managed with a pram and with the smallest "skorocyklists" on bicycles. The waterfalls are about five kilometres from Žulová, but you can also walk to them from the large car park, which is about a kilometre away. The magical cascades and rapids in this romantic and wild valley are created by a mountain spring that rises on the slopes of the highest mountain, Rychleb Smrk (1,126 m above sea level). The cascades themselves were formed in a narrow rock gorge that is over a hundred metres long and gradually rises to a height of fourteen metres. The highest waterfall, which is also accessible by trail, falls freely from a narrow rock neck into a wide couloir from a height of three metres. It is true that the Nýznerovské Waterfalls are not among the most powerful waterfalls that can be visited in the Czech mountains, but thanks to the intense flow of water through the rock gorge they create a truly unique natural phenomenon. In the end, you can quench your hunger and thirst near the waterfalls in the Nýznerov Fisherman's Bastion. And if you love the atmosphere and smell of cafés, we highly recommend a visit to Eleanor Café in a baroque house in the centre of Žulová, which you will also find in Lukáš Hejlík' s prestigious gastromap. | |
