Two large museum exhibitions offer comprehensive testimonies about the Inquisition. In Šumperk in the cellar of the Geschader House, which once belonged to the influential Peschke family, a married couple convicted of witchcraft, and in Jeseník in the cellar of the Water Fortress.

Footage of the trials, exhibits of torture instruments and examples of prisons are complemented by audio guides and impressive film projections. The oppressive atmosphere of pain and suffering is not for everyone. If you prefer fresh air, take a walking tour through Šumperk, it will take you to the places where the witches lived. Whether you go on foot or by bike, you will also discover reminders of the witch trials in the surrounding countryside. The castle in Velké Losiny, for example, is not only a gem of late Renaissance architecture, but also a prison where interrogations were held. A monument in the spa park commemorates the place where convicts died at the stake. The tragic fate of those executed was to be forever commemorated by a witches' torment. They were built by the victims' survivors at the end of the 17th century. Some have not survived, others have been moved over the years. Those that have survived the centuries can be seen in Rapotín, Velké Losiny and Kouty nad Desnou. God's torment in Šumperk (at the crossroads near Nové Domky) probably dates back to 1699 and was declared a cultural monument. They commemorate the Šumperk trials led by Henry František Boblig of Edelstadt. The three-metre-high, late Renaissance, four-sided stone pillars are also exceptional for the material used. They were made from local stone, soapstone slate, which was only mined in the vicinity of Sobotín and Vernířovice - the settlement where the first accused, the beggar Marina Schuchová, came from. The year was 1678.
